MarWin Offshore Wind Project

US Wind’s MarWin Project At-a-Glance

  • Approximately 300 MW of offshore wind energy, which is enough clean energy to power over 92,000 Maryland homes.
  • Up to 22 turbines located more than 20 miles from shore.
  • Operational life expectancy of more than 25 years.
  • Will support more than 1,300 Maryland jobs. US Wind is committed to using union labor and minority businesses to fill many of these positions.
  • Invest more than $75 million in Maryland ports.

Offshore wind energy is Maryland’s largest clean energy resource. Reducing the emission of huge amounts of air pollutants like carbon dioxide, sulfur oxide and nitrogen oxide, while simultaneously supporting thousands of local jobs and revitalizing Baltimore’s exceptional waterfront, offshore wind energy is Maryland’s future.

US Wind, Maryland’s leader in offshore wind development, holds the lease rights to a federal lease area miles off the coast of Ocean City, Maryland. The lease area, about 80,000 acres in size, has the capacity to generate about 1,800 megawatts (MW) of offshore wind energy, which is enough clean electricity to power more than half a million homes each year.

The first phase of US Wind’s lease area, called “MarWin,” is an offshore wind facility that will deliver approximately 300 MW of clean, renewable electricity to Maryland by constructing 22 turbines or less more than 20 miles from shore. Generating 300 MW of offshore wind energy will power more than 92,000 homes for a year, reducing emissions of carbon dioxide and other harmful air pollutants.

By supporting more than 1,300 local jobs, the MarWin offshore wind farm will also boost Maryland’s economy. Offshore wind means good, union jobs for Marylanders – and it means supplying the Mid-Atlantic with clean energy, produced right here. US Wind is committed to revitalizing underserved communities, hiring skilled union labor and minority owned businesses, and collaborating with local communities, fishermen, and environmental organizations to work together for a better future.
