 In press release, USWind

February 8, 2021 – Today, US Wind Inc. (“US Wind”) announced the hiring of Matt Filippelli as the company’s new Technical Director. In his new role, Filippelli will lead the company’s in-house engineering as US Wind ramps up development of its major offshore wind facility off the coast of Maryland.

“As we move into late-stage development of our project, it is more important than ever that we have the right technical people in place,” said Jeff Grybowski, US Wind CEO. “With nearly two decades of experience in everything from site assessment to construction, Matt adds a great deal of depth and expertise to our team.”

Filippelli joins US Wind from Natural Power Consultants, where he served as principal engineer & offshore services lead. Prior to Natural Power Matt worked at UL Renewables (previously AWS Truepower), where he was the director of offshore services and principal engineer. He has been active in the field of offshore wind energy engineering since 2003, with a particular focus on site assessment, wind technology, and project design. Filippelli’s work over the past 18 years has advanced wind projects across North America, Europe, and Asia.

“I’m honored to be able to leverage my unique experience to propel US Wind’s project from concept to operations,” said Filippelli. “I’m thrilled to be joining Jeff Grybowski and the hardworking men and women of the US Wind team to bring offshore wind power to the great state of Maryland.”

US Wind acquired a 80,000-acre federal lease area off of the coast of Maryland in 2014. In 2017, the company was awarded Offshore Renewable Energy Credits (ORECs) from the State of Maryland for the first phase of its MarWin project. In total, the company’s lease area can support approximately 1.5 gigawatts (GW) of offshore wind energy capacity. In 2019, Maryland passed the Clean Energy Jobs Act, which increased the state’s offshore wind energy requirements, calling for an additional 1.2 GW to be procured from developers with projects near the state’s coast.
