Supporting clean energy legislation supports the future

In the past few years, monumental steps have been taken towards a clean energy future, especially on the state level. Americans across the political spectrum support policies that promote renewable energy sources, corporations have more than doubled their commitment to renewable energy just in the past year, and climate change solutions become more and more central to policy discussions.

In Maryland, the passing of the Clean Energy Jobs Act further strengthens the state’s position in becoming “the national hub for the new clean energy economy.” Two developers, which include US Wind, are developing projects that are expected to power around 110,000 homes using clean, locally produced electricity.

A recent piece in Maryland Matters outlines the long-lasting economic benefits that offshore wind development will bring. “We have both an existing, skilled manufacturing workforce and underutilized facilities that, with effort, investment and vision, could be retooled and repurposed to serve this booming industry. Once these new businesses are in place, they will not only provide products for the two Maryland projects, but also could create products for many future projects – if we have the will to remain a leader.”

Protecting our environment through climate action will secure our quality of life for the future.
